Kim Kardashian was held up at gunpoint by masked assailants on Oct. 3 while in Paris for Fashion Week. The thieves entered her private residence around 3 a.m. local time, and stole over $11 million in jewelry, two cell phones, and a wallet with $1,000 in cash.

The incident left Kardashian “badly shaken,” but some social media users were unsympathetic to the reality television star.

Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was also pushed into the fray. This past summer during the Rio Olympics, Lochte lied about being robbed at gunpoint by police impersonators.

The disparaging comments by Twitter users weren’t well received by Kardashian’s celebrity peers, particularly model Chrissy Teigen. Teigen came to the defense of Kardashian, chastising those who find the home invasion comedic.

“Some [expletive] just isn’t funny. I see you trying, but it isn’t,” Teigen wrote. “Fame is interesting. Celebs are supposed to love you guys while also knowing you’d make a meme of our dead bodies to get retweets”

She continued, “I dunno. It’s hard to explain because everyone thinks money and fame is pure awesome, so it just sounds whiny. I get it, trust me. Go off.”

When a Twitter user countered that Kardashian is draped in millions of dollars and why should society have sympathy for her, Teigen said she understands dislike comes with the territory of being a celebrity. However, she wants people to have empathy for one another.

“Please do not think that I think celebrities are special snowflakes. I just miss empathy, in general, for everyone,” she tweeted.

Carpool Karaoke host James Corden simply tweeted, “People making jokes about @KimKardashian tonight would do well to remember that she’s a mother,a daughter,a wife,a friend.Be nice or shut up”

Other notable names, including Steve HarveyPiers Morgan, and Sherri Shepherd have offered well-wishes to Kardashian.

Kardashian is currently in New York City along with her husband Kanye West, who abruptly ended his show upon hearing the news.

Does this Teigen have a point—should social media users show more empathy towards Kardashian? Comment below.
