R&B crooner R. Kelly is a sexual predator who is holding women against their will in a cult-like setting in his homes, according to a bombshell report.
In a lengthy Buzzfeed article entitled “Inside the Piped Piper R&B’s ‘Cult,'” journalist Jim DeRogatis unveils the sordid details of Kelly’s personal life away from the stage.
According to the report, the 50-year-old hitmaker houses six women in his Atlanta and Chicago homes and controls their every move and has isolating them from their loved ones. He allegedly tells them what to wear, records sexual encounters, and monitors their phones.
DeRogatis’ findings are supported by former members of Kelly’s inner circle — Cheryl Mack, Kitti Jones, and Asante McGee — as well as the parents of two of the women.
The mother of one of the live-in women identified as J. said she hasn’t had consistent contact with her daughter since she began residing with the singer. The last time they saw each other in person was Dec. 1, 2016.
J.’s daughter is an aspiring singer who met Kelly at one of his concerts two years ago. The then-19-year-old had hoped to receive mentorship from Kelly but instead was misled, said J.
“It was as if she was brainwashed. (She) looked like a prisoner — it was horrible,” J. told Buzzfeed of the last time she saw her daughter. “I hugged her and hugged her. But she just kept saying she’s in love and (Kelly) is the one who cares for her. I don’t know what to do. I hope that if I get her back, I can get her treatment for victims of cults. They can reprogram her. But I wish I could have stopped it from happening.”
Desperate for help, J. contacted Georgia authorities and the FBI, who reportedly told J. that her daughter was of age and wasn’t considered missing person.
Mack, a former assistant to Kelly said young women are under blinded by the star power that is Kelly and are usually in for a rude awakening.
“This is R. Kelly, I’m going to live a lavish lifestyle,” Mack said. “No. You have to ask for food. You have to ask to go use the bathroom. … [Kelly] is a master at mind control. … He is a puppet master.”
Jones and McGee said they were sexually involved with Kelly until they left their positions with the last five years. They said they were also controlled by Kelly, who would oversee their social media pages and cell phones.
Aside from J.’s daughter, there are said to be four other women allegedly being kept hostage by Kelly. They are between the ages of 18 and 26. There was also a 31-year-old woman who served as a “mother den,” teaching the women how to please Kelly sexually, according to the report. She has since left the premises.
Kelly has faced disturbing allegations involving women for most of his career. He allegedly married singer Aaliyah back in the 90s when she was 15.
In 2008, Kelly was on trial for having sexual intercourse with a minor that was captured on his home surveillance. Kelly was acquitted of all charges.
Just last year, a Mississippi deputy accused Kelly of sleeping with his wife, which led to their divorce. John Smith said Kelly transmitted chlamydia to his wife.
