The 21-year-old model, whose parents are Kris and Caitlyn Jenner, is set to receive the Fashion Icon of the Decade award next month during New York’s Fashion Week.
Per FashionWeekDaily.com, Daily Front Row’s 2017 Fashion Media Awards will honor Jenner on Sept. 8 among other honorees that include Mario Testino for Creative of the Year; Jordan Barrett for Male Model of the Year; and The Lenny Letter’s Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner for Best Digital Destination.
Plus-sized model Ashley Graham will host the extravagant event.
Upon the announcement that Jenner would receive the hardware, Twitter users took to the social media platform to express their disdain.
“Girl poses with the same old boring face, didn’t even do 10 diverse photoshoots & y’all giving her ‘Fashion Icon of The decade’ …. Tragic,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Decade???? she was 11 a decade ago??? have you SEEN what the kardashians were wearing 10 years ago???” another user inquired.
Other social media users offered suggestions of those who they believed were more deserving of the award, including singer Rihanna. Rihanna was previously stated Fashion Icon by the CFDA.
“I’m tired of y’all giving Kendall Jenner credits that she doesn’t deserve. Kendall is not the fashion icon of this Decade. Rihanna is,” one user asserted.
Jenner has graced the cover of hundreds of magazines including Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
The younger sibling of the Kardashian women has faced backlash for her appearance in campaigns this year.
Jenner was the face of the Pepsi commercial where she bridged the relationship with law enforcement and its community by offering a can of soda. Twitter users slammed the advertisement for being tone-deaf and insensitive, considering the nation’s political and social climate.
When Adidas revealed Jenner as its brand ambassador, again, Twitter users expressed their displeasure of its choice.
