Cardi B and Offset celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary back in September.
However, as time passed, their relationship became more like business partners rather than husband and wife, according to Page Six.
“They were really together, of course. But, after a while, it was more for business,” the insider revealed to the publication. “They’re both very street, and they have smart people who are savvy and made it known that [being together] is a smart business arrangement for everyone.”
The source added, “Celebrity couples play well. It was a lucrative business arrangement for both of them. They’re enormous stars. Their relationship was more of a wink-and-nod, we’re together, but we’re not together. They played it up for as long as they could.”
Cardi B confirmed that she and the Migos rapper were no longer together in an Instagram video on Wednesday.
In the one-minute clip, Cardi admitted that she still has “a lot of love” for Offset but after failed attempts to work on their union, they’ve decided to go their separate ways.
“I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby’s father for a hot minute now. We’re really good friends and we’re really good business partners . . . but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time,” Cardi B said. “It’s nobody’s fault, I guess we just grew out of love, but we’re not together anymore.”
The two rap stars intend to co-parent their daughter, Kulture, whom Cardi B revealed for the first time on Wednesday evening.
What led to Cardi B and Offset’s breakup is unknown. However, cheating allegations have surrounded the couple since they began dating — and as recently as five months ago.
An alleged text exchange between Offset and another woman was leaked to TMZ. In the correspondence, the “Bad and Boujee” rapper inquires about having a threesome with rapper Cuban Doll and another woman. He offers to fly the women to his location.
Of his ending marriage, Offset just wrote: “Yall won.”
