Queen Latifah wants U.N.I.T.Y in female rap.
During an appearance on LIVE with Kelly and Ryan, Queen Latifah was asked to weigh in on the feud between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj.
“I’m up for a real ‘brouhaha’ and a ‘dustup,’ but not for these ladies. I have a lot of respect for female rappers,” she said Wednesday. “We are such a powerful minority. And I say powerful in the sense that if you hear a female rapper’s record come through on the radio, you hear that record, you know that record, you memorize that record. We just stand out.”
Cardi B and Nicki Minaj nearly came to blows after Cardi B “aggressively approached” Minaj’s table at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons dinner party back on Sept. 9. As security eagerly kept the two apart, Cardi launched her platform red heel in the direction of her rap nemesis.
Shortly after the incident, Cardi (born Belcalis Almanzar) posted a statement via Instagram, where she revealed the root of their quarrel.
According to the Bronx rapper, Minaj has looked to sabotage her music career, including by telling other artists not to work with her. However, it was Minaj’s mention of Cardi’s daughter, Kulture, that took her over the edge.
“But when you mention my child, you choose to like comments about me as a mother, make comments about my abilities to take care of my daughter is when all bets are f**kin off!!” she continued. “I’ve worked too hard and come too far to let anybody f**k with my success!!!!”
While Cardi looked to resolve their issues by fisticuffs, Latifah has another – and better – idea: collaborate.
“I’d really rather see ’em shoot the fair one on a record and take everybody out,” Latifah suggested. “I could produce it, wrap it, executive produce it. ‘We Are The World’ situation.
