Cardi B finds inspiration in her daughter, Kulture.
During an acceptance speech at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday (Oct. 9), Cardi B thanked her infant baby girl for serving as motivation to continue to work hard.
“I really want to thank my daughter,” the 25-year-old said in her speech for Rap/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. “And not just because she’s my daughter but because when I was pregnant, I was just so influenced to be like, ‘Yo I gotta do this. I gotta show people wrong. I gotta prove people wrong.”
In a singsongy voice, Cardi B added: “Because they said I wasn’t gonna make it after I had a baby.”
Cardi B concluded her speech by thanking her newlywed husband Offset, stating: “And my husband, hey, husband.”
Cardi B, who welcomed Kulture with the Migos rapper in July, recently spoke out in defense of her mothering skills following a physical altercation with rap nemesis Nicki Minaj during the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS dinner party in September.
Shortly after the kerfuffle, Cardi B stated Minaj’s mention of Kulture is what sent her over the edge. In an interview with W magazine published Tuesday, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper echoed similar sentiments.
“For a while now, [Nicki’s] been taking a lot of shots at me,” Cardi B said. “I spoke to her twice before and we came to an understanding. But she kept it going.”
Cardi B continued: “I love my daughter. I’m a good-ass f—king mom. So for somebody that don’t have a child to like that comment? So many people want to say that party wasn’t the time or the place, but I’m not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block.”
To spend time with Kulture, Cardi pulled out of a worldwide tour with Bruno Mars.
