Kevin Hart is doubling down on his refusal to apologize for homophobic tweets he wrote several years ago.
Hart is facing an intense backlash from social media users after anti-gay tweets resurfaced Wednesday, including one that read he’d cause his son bodily harm if he were gay.
“Our world is becoming beyond crazy,” Hart complained in an Instagram video, “and I’m not gonna let the craziness frustrate me … if you don’t believe people change, grow, evolve as they get older, [then] I don’t know what to tell you.”

The caption of the video reads in part: “If u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me. I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man I am becoming.”
He wasn’t done just yet.
“I just got a call from the Academy,” he began in a follow-up post, “and that call basically said, ‘Kevin, apologize for your tweets of old or we’re going to have to move on and find another host’ … I chose to pass. I passed on the apology.”
Placing the blame on “internet trolls” looking to dig up dirt, Hart also asked of them to find all the times he’s apologized for his transgressions.
The nearly decade-old tweets began circulating Twitter almost immediately after Hart revealed he was tapped to host the 91st Academy Awards.
“For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same,” he wrote on Instagram. “I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose to.
“I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time.”
